With 103 floors, world's eighth tallest building expected to spur major commercial benefits
The new Tianjin Chow Tai Fook Finance Center, the highest skyscraper in northern China, is scheduled for a lighting show in Tianjin Binhai New Area on Dec 31 - a massive facility welcoming brands, professionals and tourists from around the world to seek pleasure, opportunities and good fortune in the economically dynamic region.
Rated by its developers as the eighth highest building in the world, the center stands 530 meters tall with 103 floors and covers a vast area of 390,000 square meters.
MASSIVE TIANJIN CTF SKYSCRAPER NEARS COMPLETION
Local officials said this kind of skyscrapers can provide more space for regional development by making full use of limited land resources.
The gleaming structure is also a new city brand for the area, showcasing its modern construction technology and commercial vitality, officials added.
The center has adopted stylish and artistic designs for multiple-use functions - as offices, hotels, serviced apartments and shopping malls, efficiently allocated within the different floors.
The main structure has a hyperboloid glass surface and the architects say the softly curving glass skin integrates eight sloping megacolumns and its specially designed shape can protect the building against strong winds.
The structure's super height and complex design posed a major challenge in its construction.
On average, however, every four days saw a floor built. To improve efficiency while guaranteeing quality, the project adopted the emerging technical guidance Building Information Modeling and construction management system. It is one of the first 12 projects in China certified by the China Construction Testing and Certification Union, in its application of BIM.
The center has also won multiple design awards, including first prize of the AEC Excellence Awards in 2017.
When put into operation, the center will attract people from different cultural backgrounds to exchange ideas and seek potential business partners, local officials said.
Officials said the Binhai New Area has many unique buildings, including the shell-shaped railway station and the futuristic Tianjin Binhai New Area Library, whose design has won it worldwide acclaim and made it a hot tourist attraction.
The newly established Tianjin CTF Finance Center is expected to play a major role in Binhai New Area's realization of its goal to create a prosperous, livable and intelligent area.
Officials said that, overall, significant achievements have been made in attracting investment, promoting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, developing intelligent industry and improving the ecological environment, business environment and people's livelihoods.
